NEW! Extended Pigsy Collection in Effusion Gallery, Key West

To top off a super Key West weekend of fishing, crab traps and great eating, I stopped by Effusion Gallery on world famous Duval Street to view the new art from Irish artist Pigsy in their collection.

Feel really lucky that I can see Pigsy here in Key West.  What originally was a collection of 9 (5 sold) is now a beautifully curated assemblage of 8 new pieces.  No doubt these will sell fast, so if you want to see some beautiful Irish art, my advice is get in fast!  And ENJOY!

Oh! And if you are in Dublin, Ireland why not catch his latest exhibition!

"Lost in Thought" will be exhibited in Ranelagh in April 2023.

Trip Report - Effusion Gallery, Key West, Florida

 Delighted to see that Pigsy is now available here in Key West at the fabulous Effusion Gallery on the world famous Duval Street.

Side note.  We bought a new sofa for the room where my Pigsy (Three Times Broke) is displayed.  And I think they both co-ordinate and really tie the room together.  I'm getting a new rug and coffee table now so will post photos of the full room in time

Myself, Patrick and our friend's from across the street took ourselves straight down to Effusion as soon as we heard they were on display.  We made an evening of it and had drinks and lobster rolls in DJ's Clam Shack which is literally two doors away from the gallery which was handy! Nothing beats those lobster rolls!  

It was a really great evening looking at the wonderful art pieces and chatting with the gallery director. The majority of these pieces were painted during his year long residency in Malaga, Spain and the vibrancy and colors capture and express this. 

Look at me in the bottom left picture.  I am pointing to the little red dot.   SOLD! "Power Supply" was sold on the very first day the collection was put on the walls.  

As a follow on from our little art gallery trip it was exciting to see a Pigsy write up, one week later in The Citizen Newspaper.

Effusion Gallery is a cool gallery infused with a pop art vibe combined with Florida's rich flavor of color, whimsy and eclectic culture. I think Pigsy is a perfect addition to their collection.  I recommend you check it next time you are in Key West!

Irish artist Pigsy - Art & Film

Fantastic Pigsy event coming up this Thursday - a presentation of his latest artwork and a screening of the wonderful Mike Andrews' Pigsy documentary film.  

The only bad news I am afraid, is that it is an all-ticketed affair and at this point is Sold Out!

Around this time last year Enid, Irish artist Pigsy, and I were prepping for two big shows/events in London (one art show and then the screening of the Pigsy movie in the London Irish Film Festival).  Which reminds me btw if you want to watch the Pigsy film it is available HERE

I am sad to be missing out on being part of the next big thing for Pigsy, but am excited about what is coming soon.

Nostalgia's not what it was - a solo exhibition

Busy times for my brother in law Ciaran McCoy aka the Irish artist Pigsy. At the moment he is preparing for his second solo exhibition at the beginning of October.  He is also being filmed and interviewed by filmmaker Mike Andrews for a documentary Mike is making about him.  Oh and on top of that he only had one of the projects that he was lead architect on featured in the Sunday Times this weekend (I like to say he is an architect by day, and an artist by night!).

Anyway, I digress.  His exhibition!
Running over 4 nights in the very cool Fumbally Exchange, opening night is Thursday 5th of October and am sure will have a great buzzy atmosphere just like his last exhibition.  And then on Friday night there will be a street party vibe - the Fumbally Exchange is on Dame Lane which is always good on Friday nights!

Oh and.  Did I mention free beer?
Hope Beer will be showcasing their hand made Irish craft beers at the exhibition too

Because new bike!

Today (Saturday) was an exciting day as I as I picked up my new bike.  Actually, let's first start with Friday and by saying what a SUPER night it was with the best company ever.

 

This is me 5 seconds after leaving the bike shop, so excited with my new bike and new helmet that I just had to take a selfie. 

 

For posterity here is a photo of my old bike.

It's 7 years old at this point and I think has had a good innings.  And it's even getting a second life!  I saw an ad on my work intranet where a lady was looking for a cheap run around for cycling around town - just like me really.  I messaged her last week and she came and had a look.  She LOVED it - even the crate on the back which I said she could remove if she didn't think she would use it..but she said she would - like me for her weekly shopping.  So I couldn't ask her for money for it of course, sure it owes me nothing at this stage, and I like the idea of it being used some some more, so she is going to throw a little donation into our staff charity fund.  So it's a win for us all! 

 

And here is my new bike!

What a beauty eh?!!!!!  I am delighted with it.  I took it around town for a spin this morning and then cycled over to Enid.  I got a good feel for it and decided I'd bring it back to the shop to get the saddle raised a little.  I did that this afternoon and it's an even more comfortable ride now.  It's a good compromise between the Dutch bike which Enid really wanted me to get, and the lighter Brownie that I originally wanted - i.e. it feels like a Dutchie but is nowhere near as heavy.

 

I was so excited that I went on periscope on the way over to Enid telling the whole world about it.  Enid's friend Alan in Pennsylvania saw my broadcast and messaged her to say Amy's on the way over to you on her new bike.  Enid and I thought that was pretty funny :-)

I stayed for about 45 minutes or so with Enid and Ciaran chatting and drinking coffee.  It was nice catching up with Ciaran as I haven't seen him for a while, and hearing what he is up to.  That is one of his latest paintings in the background - he is doing a lot of work lately as he is preparing for his second solo (Pigsy) exhibition later this year. 

Pigsy Art - Christmas decoration

A couple of days ago I came home to find a little parcel in my post.  I wasn't expecting anything so I was pretty excited to find out what it was - there really is nothing like getting a parcel is there?!

 

When I opened it I found a beautiful Christmas ornament and a letter signed by Pigsy.

I follow Pigsy on twitter and had shared a competition which of course I instantly forgot about once I had done so :-)

 

This is a very cool Christmas decoration - of a (Pigsy) stylised angel.  I think it's too cool to just use at Christmas and I have it hanging in my window where I like the juxtaposition of its street art look and feel, versus the grandeur of the Irish Government Buildings.

Pigsy is the alter ego of my brother in law, and award winning architect Ciaran McCoy.  I just adore his work and I've been threatening to buy a painting of his for a while now.  I know I will at some point but for the moment I guess this little piece will have to do me.
