Ikea haul

My sister Katie was home for the weekend so we arranged to go to Ikea and hang out together.

First up was breakfast!  That slice of Daim cake is NOT mine!  I did have a bite of it though :-)

I only wanted a few things - mainly picture frames actually. And of course I ended up with a  few things more when I got to the cashier.  But overall I was happy - it was only €30 for all of this.  I am very happy with the table top ironing board as my current ironing board is in terrible shape, plus it is a complete pain trying to get it in and out of the storage cupboard.

I used two of the picture frames for some Key West related pics.

On the left is a shell found on the ocean floor near the Atocha on one of Mel Fisher's salvage expeditions.  It was given to me as a birthday gift and I love it so much.

And on the right is a print of Hemingway House
I am looking forward to visiting it (and everything else in Key West. Fishing!!) again this coming May!

Ikea trip and then more diy

I woke up this morning and it was miserable.  Raining heavily and very windy.  The choice was either stay in bed or just get up and get on with it.  I went with the latter (part of my plan to get up and Do Something a the weeked).

I decided to go to Ikea.  I didn't have to get anything but figured it would be nice for a potter.
First things first I got breakfast.
Ikea have really improved their breakfast offering with everything freshly baked or cooked and laid out nicely.  They have scones, cereals, muesli, fruit salad, pastries and then a cooked breakfast of rashers, sausages, eggs and potato farls.

I bought: spare red blanket that I use to cover Harry's chair (see pic below), a toilet
brush, and some chocolate ().

And then when we came home I put up a 4th blind in my house - I am gone blind mad but I think this is my final one for a while.  From the front of the house there is a blind on every window and it does finish off the windows nicely.  These are the blinds I bought in Harry Corry and I'm very happy with them.

TV unit

I have been waiting on this TV unit to come into stock in Ikea, oh since only about October!!!!
And it's still not in stock - and no prediction of when it will be in stock.

SO!
As much as I love this "Stockholm" unit I cannot wait any longer and I have started looking for alternatives.

Enid told me about a cool place called Table Lighting Chair who sell old vintage restored furniture so I went out to have a look last week.

Table Lighting Chair is located down a lane in an old shed and they have some very cool stuff. They didn't have anything quite to my taste/liking though.

However the guy suggested instead that they will make me a piece to my specifications!  How cool!
Watch this space!!!!!  I will post pics when it is complete.

Ikea trip

Few small purchases this morning!

Lampshades for living room, hall & landing.

Bottles for juice & water in the fridge

Alert! Work in progress!
I bought a clothes rack for a short term solution to this room - what used to be an ensuite bathroom (which was never used) - and what will be a walk in wardrobe in the future.

I originally went for black towels in the bathroom originally but my lord did they show the dirt - in particular toothpaste stains.
I have now switched out to a white towel with a grey stripe.

Living room transformation

Before

After

This photo has some gaps!  We will put a large picture on the right hand wall.  New tv cabinet is on order!  Plus need to choose new lightfitting / lampshade for main overhead light.

Guest Bedroom (after)

I have no before shots of the guest bedroom (it was an afterthought that I would do this room) but basically it was very plain white walls, with one blue wall.

The walls are now painted the same colour as the downstairs and hall, stairs and landing.  I got the same carpet everywhere as well.

And then the major change I switched the cast iron bed room from the master bedroom to this room.

The new bed linen and curtains are from IKEA(!!!) of course!

Lovbacken table!!!!

These photos do not capture the fabulousness of my new occasion table from Ikea!

The Lovbacken table is a reproduction of an original three legged leaf table from 1956.
Originally called the Lovet table, it was one of the first flat pack products which Ikea sold when the designer unscrewed the legs to pack it.

I have been planning a new sitting room for my house (oh for only the last five years!!!) and this piece is going to play a big part in that design.

Edit (04/03/14).
For better pictures of the table with my NEW interior decor check out the blog post here

Adorable glassware!

Enid & I dropped over to Ikea today.  It had been a long time since we'd been there together.
We found the most adorable glasses!!!!

Pretty pink flamingos and luscious looking pineapples!

It makes me very happy to see them in my kitchen press.

DIY: New Ironing board cover

My ironing board has been in very bad shape for a long while now.  And for a long while now I have been intending to do something about it!

So today during a trip to Ikea today I picked up a new cover.  It was only €4.75.  What a bargain.

Voila!
It's like a new ironing board!

Ikea rocks!
